Decrease in birth rate and increase in death rate in Uzbekistan

12447The latest report from the Statistics Agency of Uzbekistan highlights a decline in birth rates and a rise in the number of deaths over the past nine months.
As of October 1, 2024, the population of Uzbekistan reached 37.35 million, with men comprising 50.4% and women 49.6% of the total. In the first nine months of 2024, there were 179,400 marriages and 34,000 divorces. During the same period, 193,500 people emigrated from Uzbekistan, while 186,600 people immigrated to the country.
A total of 693,900 babies were born between January and September 2024, marking a 3.2% decrease compared to the same period in 2023. Of these, 360,000 were boys and 333,900 were girls. Urban areas accounted for 343,400 births (49.5%), while rural areas saw 350,500 births. The highest birth rates were recorded in the Samarkand, Fergana, and Kashkadarya regions.
The report also revealed that 131,700 people died in the first nine months of 2024, up from 129,700 during the same period last year. Of those who passed away, 72,300 were men and 59,400 were women. Urban areas reported 74,500 deaths, while rural areas had 57,200.
The leading causes of death included circulatory system diseases (57.2%), tumors (9.5%), respiratory diseases (6.5%), and accidents (5.8%). The highest number of deaths was recorded in the Samarkand and Fergana regions, as well as Tashkent city.
