In Uzbekistan, enforcement documents related to the collection of alimony have been issued to 3,500 mothers. This was reported to QALAMPIR.UZ by Farrukh Toshpulatov, spokesperson for the Bureau of Compulsory Enforcement.
According to him, in 2018 there were a total of 240,000 enforcement documents for alimony and material support, while by 2025 this figure has reached 348,000—reflecting a 45 percent increase in alimony cases over the past seven years.
Currently, more than 348,000 enforcement documents related to alimony and material support are under the Bureau’s review. On average, each state enforcement officer handles around 147 cases of this category per month. Of these, 3,500 cases involve mothers who are obliged to pay alimony.
The highest rate of alimony payments by women is recorded in the Samarkand region, followed by Fergana, Surkhandarya, and Andijan regions.
“Although cases of mothers paying alimony are rare, their number has been growing in recent years as the total number of alimony payers increases. The Bureau strives to ensure equal responsibility from both parents to protect the rights of the child,” Toshpulatov stated.
For reference, the obligation to pay alimony usually falls on men. However, when custody of children is granted to fathers based on court decisions, in some cases the mother is registered as the alimony payer.
It should be noted that earlier in Fergana, a father was imprisoned after being found hiding behind a curtain to avoid paying alimony. Last year, another man who had been evading alimony payments was discovered under the covers of his house in Kashkadarya. Similar cases were recorded in the basement of a house in Namangan and Surkhandarya, on a chicken farm in Khorezm, in a nightclub in Fergana, at an aunt’s house in Andijan, and at a grandmother’s house in Bukhara.
In Surkhandarya region, a father who had avoided paying alimony for the financial support of his minor child was caught while attending his brother’s wedding. In another case in the Andijan region, a father evading alimony was found hiding behind a slate in the unfinished part of his house.
