15292Specifically, amendments and supplements are being made to the Criminal Code, as indicated in the law titled "On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Documents of the Republic of Uzbekistan," signed by the President.
According to the amended law, imprisonment ranging from 1 to 3 years may be imposed for activities such as producing, storing, transporting, or transferring goods that do not meet consumer life or health safety requirements, as well as performing works or providing services for such purposes. Previously, only a fine, compulsory community service, or correctional work was imposed for such offenses.
Furthermore, the severity of punishment for this crime may be increased if it causes more harm than initially thought. Specifically, a penalty of up to 5 years may be imposed if the actions result in moderate or severe bodily harm, are committed by a group of individuals with prior collusion and repetition, or involve a dangerous recidivist.
The duration of imprisonment escalates to 5 to 7 years if the same actions lead to a loss of life. In cases where these actions cause the death of individuals or other serious consequences, the penalty of deprivation of liberty ranges from 7 to 12 years.
Additionally, the illegal production of ethyl alcohol, alcoholic, and tobacco products is subject to penalties such as a fine ranging from 200 to 400 times the Partial Count Amount, correctional labor for up to 3 years, restriction of liberty for 3 to 5 years, or imprisonment for up to 5 years.
It is worth noting that a previous law, "On Amendments and Additions to the Criminal and Criminal Procedure Codes of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Code of Administrative Responsibility of the Republic of Uzbekistan," had already addressed the determination of responsibility for related offenses.
