3241Today, on August 27, the second reading of the draft law "On Amendments and Additions Aimed at Improving the System of Working with Digital Evidence in Some Legal Documents of the Republic of Uzbekistan" was discussed. This was reported by the press service of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.
It was noted that the right to present digital evidence has been added to the rights of witnesses (Article 66 of the Criminal Procedure Code) under the draft law.
In order to ensure the reliable protection of personal data and to prevent the spread of such data, Article 88, Part 5 of the Criminal Procedure Code has been amended based on the initiatives of deputies. It now stipulates that if evidence unrelated to the case remains in the possession of the investigative body or the court, it must be irretrievably destroyed.
Additionally, Article 161 of the Criminal Procedure Code has been amended to include Part 9, which regulates the search and seizure of personal electronic data according to the law and the court's decision.
The proposal to adopt the law in the third reading was presented and voted upon. The law was passed in the third reading and sent to the Senate.
It should be noted that this law, which has been anticipated by law enforcement officials, was not passed by the Senate earlier. After more than six months, the law, with several amendments, was returned to the Legislature for revision by the senators.
