The Syrdarya-Malik and Tselinny-Oq Oltin road checkpoints on the Uzbek-Kazakh border will receive international status. Kazinform reported this.
It was noted that the Kazakh Senate ratified a protocol introducing these changes to the agreement on checkpoints across the state border, signed between the governments of the two countries on September 4, 2006.
According to the conclusion of the Senate committee, the protocol changes the status of the Syrdarya-Malik and Tselinny-Oq Oltin road checkpoints from bilateral, or interstate, to international, or multilateral. The operating hours of these border checkpoints will also be changed to a 24-hour regime.
In addition, under the protocol, the restriction allowing only passenger cars to pass through these border crossing points will be lifted, and they will also be adapted for freight and passenger transport.
In particular, passenger cars, empty trucks, as well as vehicles carrying oversized and heavy cargo and goods will be allowed to pass through the Tselinny-Oq Oltin checkpoint.
The Syrdarya-Malik checkpoint will serve only passenger cars and empty trucks. The transportation of commercial cargo and goods through this checkpoint will not be permitted.
It was noted that the implementation of this protocol and the modernization of checkpoint infrastructure on the Kazakh-Uzbek border will help distribute transport and passenger flows more effectively.
Earlier, it was reported that Kazakhstan had imposed a one-week ban on the import of fresh or chilled tomatoes from third countries into its territory by all types of transport.
