Uzbekistan ranks among top ten gold producers worldwide

In the end of 2023, Uzbekistan secured the 10th spot among the world’s largest gold producers, according to the World Gold Council.

The report shows that Uzbekistan produced 119.6 tons of gold over the past year. Russia ranked second with 321.8 tons, trailing China, the global leader, which produced 378.2 tons. Australia followed in third place with 293.8 tons.

Other countries in the top ten include Canada (191.9 tons), the United States (166.7 tons), Ghana (135.1 tons), Indonesia (132.5 tons), Peru (128.8 tons), and Mexico (126.6 tons).

Switzerland emerged as the top global exporter of gold and its derivatives last year, earning $107.2 billion from precious metal exports. The United Kingdom took second place with $65.3 billion, while China came in third at $44.4 billion.

Uzbekistan's Central Bank also bolstered its gold reserves, purchasing 9 tons in June and 9.6 tons in July, bringing total reserves to 375 tons. This activity placed Uzbekistan as the second-largest gold buyer in July among all countries.
