On November 2nd, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution calling on the United States to lift economic, commercial, and financial sanctions against Cuba. The document received support from 187 countries, including Uzbekistan, as reported on the United Nations website.

The General Assembly has passed resolutions calling for the lifting of the embargo for 31 consecutive years. In 1992, it garnered support from 59 countries; in 2017, it received support from 191; last year, 185 countries supported it, and this year, 187 countries voted in favor. In 2016, the United States abstained from the vote for the only time.

Only two countries, the USA and Israel, voted against this year's resolution, while Ukraine abstained. Uzbekistan supported the resolution.

During the Assembly session, many speakers, one after another, emphasized the illegality of the embargo against Cuba, stating that it represents a grave and systematic violation of the UN Charter. Delegates spoke about the damage the blockade inflicts on the Cuban people, depriving them of basic income and necessities, including medicine.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla highlighted in his speech at the General Assembly that the economic sanctions imposed by the United States on his country lead to widespread violations of the rights of the Cuban people. Paul Folmsby, the United States' representative who voted in favor of the resolution, argued that sanctions are one of the tools for promoting democratic principles and protecting human rights.

It is worth noting that the UN General Assembly previously adopted a resolution, prepared by a group of Arab countries, calling for an immediate peace resolution in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict territory. This resolution received support from 120 countries, including Uzbekistan.
Additionally, during the 54th session of the UN Human Rights Council held in Geneva, a resolution against Russia was voted on at the initiative of Western countries. Uzbekistan chose to abstain from voting on this resolution.
