Uzbekistan’s taxi market reaches nearly 6 trillion sums in 2024

2117The size of Uzbekistan's taxi market reached an estimated 5.89 trillion sums in 2024, according to a report from the Tax Committee detailing efforts to legalize the sector.
The report revealed that the average fare per trip was 18,456 sums. Over the year, the number of taxi aggregators integrated with the tax authorities' information systems increased significantly, rising from 6 in April to 142 in August, and reaching 155 by the end of 2024.
During this period, 319.06 million passenger trips were conducted, generating a total transportation turnover of 5.9 trillion sums. Of this, cash payments accounted for 4.5 trillion sums (76.3%), while 1.4 trillion sums (23.7%) were made using cards.
The sector is supported by approximately 498,000 self-employed drivers working through aggregators. Among them, 57% (283,680 drivers) are aged between 30 and 50, 36% (179,245 drivers) are under 30, and 7% (35,004 drivers) are over 50.
The number of female drivers has also seen a remarkable increase, growing almost fourfold from 1,053 at the beginning of the year to 4,124 by year-end.
Driver earnings varied widely:
- Over 100 million sums: 4,700 drivers
- 50–100 million sums: 23,100 drivers
- 10–50 million sums: 114,600 drivers
- 5–10 million sums: 63,500 drivers
- 1–5 million sums: 136,400 drivers
- Up to 1 million sums: 155,500 drivers
Passenger trips were primarily conducted in Nexia (17.8%), Cobalt (16.9%), Lacetti (13.9%), Spark (10.7%), and Matiz (7.9%) vehicles. Tashkent accounted for the largest share of trips (51.6%), followed by Samarkand region (7.65%), Fergana region (7.56%), Bukhara region (6%), Andijan region (5.74%), and Karakalpakstan (5%).
In 2024, taxi aggregators contributed 156.8 billion sums in taxes, including 66.2 billion sums in value-added tax.
