The population census of Uzbekistan, originally scheduled to commence on November 1, is facing a delay due to financial considerations. This announcement was made by the Statistical Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

This delay is a result of the decision made in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, dated February 5, 2019, which approved the concept for conducting the population census in the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2022. Subsequently, due to the onset of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, the event was rescheduled to 2023 and is now set to take place between November 1 and November 25.

It has been reported that all necessary normative legal and methodological documents, as well as registration questionnaires, have been prepared as part of the preparations for this process. Furthermore, a dedicated census website (aholi.stat.uz) has been launched.

However, the agency has indicated that the process is still undergoing financial analysis.

"In light of the ongoing financial assessment related to the organization of this event, we will provide further information after the final decision is made," the message states.

As a point of reference, a trial population census was conducted from November 1 to November 25, 2021, in the Khojaabad district of the Andijan region, the Upper Chirchik district of the Tashkent region, Khiva city in the Khorezm region, and Yashnabad district in Tashkent city.

It is worth mentioning that in 2022, schoolchildren in Tashkent visited households during working hours to assist with the population census.
