Uzbekistan will acquire six high-speed electric trains for its railways with the involvement of Korea Eximbank. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev made the relevant decision on August 12.
The agreement for this project was signed on June 14, 2024, with the South Korean company Hyundai Rotem. According to the decision, the project's total cost is 220.03 million euros, with an implementation period of six years.
The project aims to increase passenger transport capacity to 1.3 million people annually and create more than 300 additional jobs. The estimated payback period for the project is 25.1 years.
The executive bodies responsible for the effective and purposeful use of the funds from Korea Eximbank are Uzbekiston Temiryollari JSC and Temiryolekspress JSC, which are part of it.
For information, by the end of 2024, 465 km of the Bukhara-Urganch-Khiva route and 196 km of the Miskin-Nukus route will be completed by the end of 2026.
