5021If the joint tripartite project of Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan-Azerbaijan on the transmission of a deep-sea cable along the bottom of the Caspian Sea is successfully implemented, Uzbekistan will be able to export excess electricity to Europe starting from 2030. The Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan, Jurabek Mirzamahmudov, discussed this during the first meeting of Central Asian energy ministers in Astana.
"By the end of this year, we will increase the total power output from renewable energy sources to more than 4 GW. By 2030, this figure will exceed 20 GW, of which 2-5 GW will be exported to Europe," said Mirzamahmudov.
He noted that the exact volume of exports will depend on the capacity of the electricity transmission system and the needs of European buyers.
According to the minister, Uzbekistan's electricity will be delivered through Kazakhstan via the Central Asian unified energy system, then through the deep-sea cable along the bottom of the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan, from there to Georgia, and then from the Black Sea to Romania, Hungary, and Bulgaria.
According to Uzbekistan's development strategy, by 2030, the total generation capacity will be increased by 2.4 times (to 44.9 GW). Simultaneously, the share of renewable energy sources will be raised to 40%. For this purpose, solar and wind energy production projects with a total capacity of 18.8 GW (8.6 GW from solar and 10.2 GW from wind) will be implemented.
