9400Uzbekistan will increase electricity and natural gas tariffs again from April 1, 2025. Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Economy and Finance Jamshid Kuchkarov announced this today, December 18, at the second plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis.
“If tariffs increased this year, then the Cabinet of Ministers approved proposals to increase tariffs again from April 1 next year. Next year, if luck allows, tariffs will increase from April 1,” the minister said.
He also explained that despite the increase in prices, the reason why there are still subsidies from the budget for the energy sector is that tariffs have not reached a level that fully covers costs and a certain part of the gas is imported.
"If we talk about subsidies, in the draft budget for next year, as you can see, the amount of subsidies for gas and electricity is expected to be seven and a half trillion soums. This, of course, was twelve trillion this year, that is, it is decreasing. If you ask the question, 'Well, when will these subsidies stop?', it will continue in 2025-2026, will decrease sharply in 2027, if we are lucky, and starting from 2028, subsidies will not be provided from the budget," said Kuchkarov.
