Umarov highlights plans to expand badminton across Uzbekistan

1797Deputy Chairman of Uzbekistan’s National Olympic Committee, Otabek Umarov, held a meeting with representatives of the country's badminton federation to discuss preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympics.
During the meeting, federation representatives expressed optimism about athletes securing their first-ever Olympic qualification. Key areas highlighted for achieving this goal included enhancing the federation's material and technical base, ensuring regular participation in international training camps and competitions, and recruiting foreign experts to strengthen the national team.
Currently, badminton is most developed in the Tashkent, Bukhara, and Andijan regions. Officials provided recommendations on expanding the sport’s reach to other regions, identifying young talent, and enhancing coach training programs. Proposals were also made to send national team members to training camps in Southeast Asia, where badminton is highly competitive and developed.
The meeting concluded with a focus on accelerating the federation’s initiatives and boosting badminton’s popularity across the country.
