Islam Makhachev arrives in Tashkent (video)  

UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev has arrived in Tashkent to support his compatriot at a judo tournament. He announced his arrival on Instagram.  

The Grand Slam judo tournament kicked off in Tashkent today, February 28. Makhachev is attending the event to support Karim Abdullayev, a member of the Russian national team competing in the tournament. A video posted on social media shows Makhachev meeting with the Deputy Chairman of the National Olympic Committee, Otabek Umarov.

His last fight took place on January 18, 2025, when he defeated Brazilian Renato Moicano via submission in the first round, successfully defending his title. As a reminder, yesterday, February 27, the President of the International Judo Federation, Marius Vizer, who is in Uzbekistan for the tournament, was awarded the Order of Friendship.

Makhachev is the reigning UFC lightweight champion. His last fight took place on January 18, 2025, when he defeated Brazilian Renato Moicano via submission in the first round, successfully defending his title.  

As a reminder, yesterday, February 27, the President of the International Judo Federation, Marius Vizer, who is in Uzbekistan for the tournament, was awarded the Order of Friendship.
