The next summit of the Organization of Turkic States will be held in Samarkand in November of this year.  This was discussed yesterday 5 July, in a telephone conversation between the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the president of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

During the dialogue, views were exchanged at the summit of the Organization of the Turkic States, which will be held in Samarkand in November 2022.

An important point is that the summit to be held in Uzbekistan is significant and historic as it is the first meeting of the Organization of Turkic States.  Before that, the organization operated under the name of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking countries.

The organization’s last summit was held on 13 November 2021 in Istanbul, Turkey.  At this summit, the name of the organization was changed to the Organization of Turkic States.

Uzbekistan became a member of this organization in October 2019.

The current members of the organization are Kazakhstan, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan.  Hungary and Turkmenistan have observer status.

At the summit held in 2021, the heads of states signed more than 10 documents - the final declaration of the summit, the program document “The outlook of the Turkic world – 2040” and other decisions included in the agenda.
