Bicycle thief in Tashkent was sentenced to over five years

3248A 23-year-old repeat offender, identified as A.Kh., was sentenced to 5 years and 1 month in prison for stealing eight bicycles over eight days in Tashkent. Aziz Obidov, spokesperson for the Supreme Court, shared the details of the case.
A.Kh., who had a prior conviction for theft, resumed his illegal activities on May 27. On that day alone, he stole two bicycles. Around 4:30 p.m., he took an unattended bicycle from an apartment building in the Mirabad district, causing material damage worth 7,622,808 soums.
Later, at midnight, he stole another bicycle worth 2 million soums in the Yakkasaray district. Over the next few days, A.Kh. continued his spree, taking a bicycle worth 1,900,000 soums on Safdosh Street and another worth 2,400,000 soums on Kichik Beshyogoch Street on May 28.
On May 29, he stole a bicycle on Charkh Kamolon Street in Chilonzor district. On May 30, he took a bicycle worth 1 million soums from a children's playground on Shota Rustaveli Street. On June 1, he stole a 1,500,000-soum bicycle from the entrance to the Cosmonauts metro station. On June 3, he committed his final theft, taking another bicycle worth 1,500,000 soums.
A.Kh. was apprehended shortly after his spree. During the court hearing, he confessed to selling the stolen bicycles to unknown individuals and using the money for personal needs. The court found him guilty and sentenced him to 5 years and 1 month in prison for his repeated offenses.
In a related incident in Termiz, Surkhandarya region, a man was sentenced to 6 years in prison for stealing a water pump, selling it, and using the proceeds for personal expenses. This case underscores the judiciary's commitment to addressing theft-related crimes and ensuring accountability for repeat offenders.
