Individuals involved in the illegal trade of human organs and tissues have been detained in Tashkent, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.
According to the report, a man born in 1989, previously convicted under Article 277 (hooliganism), Part 2 of the Criminal Code, conspired with his wife to make money illegally. They produced videos designed to evoke sympathy and posted them online.
A special operation revealed that the man had been regularly engaged in the illegal trade of human organs and tissues through social media. Clients were allegedly taken to the Istiklol Clinic in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, for transplant operations. It was also revealed that he himself had undergone a kidney transplant and that others who assisted in the scheme were identified.
A criminal case has been opened against the suspect under Article 133, Part 2 of the Criminal Code (removal of transplantable human organs and/or tissues outside the Republic of Uzbekistan). He has been placed in custody.
Earlier, it was reported that in St. Petersburg, Russia, the head of the morgue at Alexandrovskaya Hospital, Andrey Kavetsky, was detained on suspicion of illegally selling bodies and body parts to a private company.
