3882Reports circulating on social media indicate that a citizen experienced adverse effects after using the drug "Ceftriaxone" without medical guidance. The Center for the Safety of Pharmaceutical Products has provided details regarding the incident.
The patient, identified as A.Kh., a resident of the Yashnabad district of Tashkent, developed fever and weakness over three days and sought to treat himself at home. Without consulting a doctor, he self-administered an intramuscular injection of a mixture of "Ceftriaxone" and "Lidocaine" with the help of his mother. Approximately 10 minutes later, he experienced convulsions, severe weakness, shortness of breath, and elevated blood pressure.
Following the onset of these symptoms, the patient was first transported by ambulance to Ergashev City Clinical Hospital No. 4 for initial treatment and subsequently transferred to Ibn Sina City Clinical Hospital No. 1 for specialized care, where standard treatment measures were administered.
The patient’s symptoms, including rash, fever, and weakness, were successfully managed, and he was discharged in improved condition.
The report from the Center states: "This drug has been state-registered in the Republic of Uzbekistan in accordance with the law, certified through laboratory tests, and approved for medical use. However, the medications involved in this case are currently undergoing re-examination in the Center's laboratories."
The Center emphasizes that "Ceftriaxone," a third-generation broad-spectrum antibiotic, is used for treating bacterial infections but is ineffective against colds, flu, and other viral infections. It must be prescribed by a doctor and administered under medical supervision. Unauthorized use of this drug at home is strongly discouraged.
