Man wearing burqa was discovered in Tashkent

26673Reports circulated on social media about a man being apprehended for wearing women's attire at Tashkent's Chorsu market.
According to reports, a person in a burqa was stopped by law enforcement officers while moving around the capital with their face covered. It was revealed that the individual was actually a man dressed in women's clothing, identified as P.B. from the Boka district of Tashkent region.
When QALAMPIR.UZ reached out to Shohrukh Giyosov, the Ministry of Internal Affairs' spokesperson, he indicated that an official statement would be forthcoming.
For context, on October 31, 2023, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan signed a law amending the Criminal and Administrative Codes. Among these changes, fines were introduced for wearing face-covering attire.
According to the law, individuals who cover their faces in public places to the degree that prevents their identification may face fines ranging from 10 to 15 times the Base Calculation Amount (from 3,300,000 to 4,950,000 soums). There are exceptions, such as having a medical permit or being required to do so for work.
