Zabihullah Mujahid, the official representative of the "Taliban”,announced the appointment of Mugfurullah Shahab as the ambassador to the Afghan embassy in Tashkent on his Twitter page.

The new ambassador began his mission on February 2, assuming de facto duties until formally heading the embassy after Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev accepts the credentials.

Mugfurullah Shahab has succeeded Ahmad Khalid Ilmi, who served as ambassador during President Ashraf Ghani's tenure.

Mugfurullah Shahab, the son of the Minister of Mining in the Taliban's Provisional Government, now holds the diplomatic post.

In late January, China officially initiated diplomatic relations with the Taliban government, making it the first country worldwide to establish such ties.

As of now, the "Taliban" has appointed ambassadors to countries including Iran, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Malaysia.

It's worth noting that Abdusalam Azizov, the head of the State Security Service of Uzbekistan, previously met with Mohammad Yaqub, acting as the defense minister in the "Taliban" interim government in Afghanistan.
