On July 3, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze attended the solemn unveiling ceremony of a monument to Alisher Navoi, the great son of the Uzbek people, poet and thinker, in Tbilisi. The presidential press service reported this.
It was noted that Alisher Navoi’s legacy is a treasure not only of the Uzbek people, but of all humanity. The works of Hazrat Navoi, which have become a unique encyclopedia of life, continue to inspire many generations and serve as a source of knowledge for researchers, literature enthusiasts and all those who seek to gain a deeper understanding of the rich spiritual world of the East.

“The unveiling of the monument to Alisher Navoi in Tbilisi has become another important event in the history of cultural ties between Uzbekistan and Georgia. Our peoples have long been connected by trade routes, friendship and bonds of mutual respect, and we have great interest in each other’s rich cultural heritage,” the statement said.

The report also noted that the work of the great Georgian poet Shota Rustaveli is deeply respected and valued in Uzbekistan. One of the central streets of Tashkent is named after him, and a monument to the great representative of Georgian classical literature has been erected there. In turn, one of Tbilisi’s central parks was named after Alisher Navoi last year.

“In recent years, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Uzbekistan and Georgia has reached a new level. Days of Uzbek culture and cinema were successfully held in Tbilisi, while Days of Georgian Culture were held in Tashkent,” the statement said.

It was reported that during the ceremony, Alisher Navoi was emphasized as a great representative of world literature, whose priceless creative legacy has for centuries called people toward humanism, enlightenment, thought and mutual respect.
Confidence was expressed that the monument to Alisher Navoi in Tbilisi will become another vivid symbol of the strengthening bonds of friendship between the peoples of Uzbekistan and Georgia.
It is worth noting that Shavkat Mirziyoyev is currently in Georgia on a state visit. Yesterday, July 2, talks were held at the Orbeliani Palace in Tbilisi between President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili. As part of the events in Tbilisi, a ceremony was also held to award Shavkat Mirziyoyev with Georgia’s highest state award, the Order of the Golden Fleece.
In addition, on July 3, during talks with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in a narrow format and with the participation of the official delegations of the two countries, a decision was made to establish the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Georgia. Following the talks, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze also signed a declaration on the establishment of strategic partnership relations.
