To avoid photodermatosis caused by sunlight during hot summer days, it is necessary to dress appropriately and stay in cool, shaded areas between 10:00 and 16:00. This was stated by Elmira Rozikova, director of the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Allergology and Clinical Immunology.

According to the specialist, the skin’s sensitivity to sunlight increases on hot days, which can lead to photodermatosis. Ultraviolet radiation can interact with the skin or substances in the body, triggering allergic reactions.

Rozikova explained that photodermatosis manifests as various rashes, including blisters, bumps, red spots, and burns on the upper chest, neck, and arms. These may be accompanied by peeling, itching, and swelling. Rashes can appear within hours of sun exposure and sometimes up to a week later. Symptoms usually disappear with treatment but may become chronic in some cases.

“To avoid such problems, it is recommended to stay in cool, shaded places from 10:00 to 16:00. It is necessary to wear clothes that cover the body. Sunscreens designed for sensitive skin are also advisable,” the specialist noted.

She added that some medications can cause or worsen photodermatosis. Therefore, before using any medication, it is important to read the instructions carefully or consult a doctor.

Drugs such as erythromycin, tetracycline, and streptomycin absorb ultraviolet rays, so patients using these ointments or applying them to the face are advised not to go outside during the day in hot weather.

“If you have symptoms of photodermatosis, you can contact the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center of Allergology and Clinical Immunology or its regional branches,” Rozikova added.

For reference, today, July 23, the weather in Tashkent is expected to be slightly cloudy, with no precipitation. Winds will blow from the east at 5–10 m/s. Temperatures will range from 24–26 degrees at night to 38–40 degrees during the day.

It should be recalled that earlier it was reported that due to extreme heat, all preschool educational organizations in Khojaly and Takhiatash districts of Karakalpakstan suspended their activities.
