An inspector from the Syrdarya Regional State Police Department has been sentenced to four years in prison for accepting a $400 bribe. The inspector had promised to influence the investigation in favor of a driver involved in a traffic accident, according to Aziz Obidov, the press secretary of the Supreme Court.

The incident began when the senior inspector arrived at the accident scene to examine the situation and assigned a medical expert to assess the injuries of one of the passengers. The driver’s vehicle was impounded on the same day. Four to five days later, the inspector contacted the driver, calling him to his office.

In the meeting, the inspector offered to help resolve the investigation favorably, expedite the forensic medical examination, and remove the vehicle from impound. In exchange for these services, he demanded a payment of $400. However, the driver refused and reported the bribe attempt to law enforcement.

During a subsequent operation, authorities apprehended the inspector in his office while he was accepting $200 of the bribe amount.

The case was reviewed in the Gulistan City Court, where the inspector was found guilty of bribery under Article 210, Part 1, of the Criminal Code. He received a four-year prison sentence and a three-year ban from holding any position in law enforcement.

Previously, a similar case in Namangan resulted in a five-year sentence for a cadastral department head who was also convicted of bribery.
