Syrdarya region Governor Akmaljon Mahmudaliyev has been dismissed from his position due to significant shortcomings in attracting investments, developing agriculture, and other activities in the region. This decision was announced on January 16 during a videoconference meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, focused on the effectiveness of efforts to attract investments and increase exports, as well as outlining future tasks.

During the meeting, it was revealed that a new investment control system would be introduced to address these issues moving forward.

Additionally, the Prime Minister will approve a monthly foreign investment plan of $42 billion for this year. Regional, city, and district governors, as well as heads of sectors, will be required to dedicate two days each week to investment-related activities.

Officials were also urged to make regular visits to the regions, engage directly with entrepreneurs, and resolve issues on-site.

For reference, Akmaljon Mahmudaliyev was appointed acting governor of Syrdarya in November 2022 and confirmed as the official governor in April 2023. Prior to this role, he served as a senior official in the Cabinet of Ministers, governor of Uchkuprik district in Fergana region, and deputy governor of Navoi region overseeing agriculture and water management.
