2807Shakhrisabz Airport will temporarily suspend operations to undergo major runway repairs. This was announced by Uzbekistan Airports.
The airport will cease operations from 5:00 AM Tashkent time on March 13, 2025, until 5:00 AM on March 25, 2025.
According to the report, the runway, which has been in use since 1983, requires extensive reconstruction and repairs to ensure the safety of aircraft landings and takeoffs. Specifically, the 1,554-meter-long runway surface will be replaced and reinforced. Additionally, the top layer of the taxiway will also undergo repairs. Based on the tender results, the reconstruction work will be carried out by the “Fergana Roads Maintenance Enterprise.”
“Until now, Shakhrisabz Airport’s capacity to receive aircraft was limited, with flights operating twice a week using smaller L-410 planes. Once the runway has been repaired, the airport will be able to accommodate modern ATR-72 aircraft designed for medium-range flights up to three times a week,” the report states.
Note: At the end of last year, Zomin Airport also temporarily ceased operations due to the second phase of its repair and modernization to accommodate larger aircraft.
