According to MP Oybek Oltinbekov, all checkpoints on the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border, except Seydiqum, have already been opened. He said opening the checkpoint would be economically beneficial for Bozor-Korgon district.
According to the deputy head of the Border Service, the Kyrgyz-Uzbek intergovernmental commission continues its work. The parties are discussing agreements on the checkpoint, and a meeting was held in Namangan on June 18 as part of this process.
“Amendments have been made to the agreement on checkpoints, including the Seydiqum checkpoint. The issue will soon be submitted for signing,” he said.
For reference, the Seydiqum checkpoint is located on Uzbekistan’s side in Paxtaobod district of Andijan region, and on Kyrgyzstan’s side in Bozor-Korgon district of Jalal-Abad region.
According to official agreements between the governments of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, this site is considered a road checkpoint, either bilateral or simplified.
There are a total of 16 road checkpoints on the state border between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. In accordance with agreements reached on demarcating the borders between the two countries and restoring and expanding the operation of checkpoints, these sites are being launched in stages.
