A 41-year-old Uzbek citizen was arrested in St. Petersburg, Russia, after attempting to rape a 16-year-old schoolgirl, as reported by the 'Fontanka' publication.

The case of this Uzbekistan citizen is currently under consideration in the court of Kuybyshevsky district. According to reports, the incident occurred on the night of New Year's Day, January 1, 2024, in the center of St. Petersburg.

The Uzbek migrant encountered the 16-year-old girl on the stairs of the 16th house on Zvenigorodskaya street. Investigators state that he initially tried to strangle the girl before forcibly removing her clothes. Fortunately, the girl resisted and successfully escaped.

The man was subsequently arrested on January 2. The Investigative Committee of the Central District has charged the Uzbek citizen with attempted rape and sexual assault of a minor.
