3056On March 20, ahead of the crucial Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan match in the 7th round of Group “A” in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Uzbekistan's midfielder Odiljon Hamrobekov shared his thoughts at a pre-match press conference.
“First and foremost, on behalf of the players, I want to express my gratitude to Mr. Srechko Katanets for his three and a half years of service. We wish him good health. We are all aware of the importance of this match. As a team, we must act in unity and fulfill the tasks set before us. The entire team has prepared thoroughly for this challenge,” said Hamrobekov.
The midfielder emphasized that underestimating the opponent could lead to dire consequences.
“It is not about names on the field; it is about how players perform. If we underestimate the opponent, that will be our greatest mistake. Only if our determination surpasses that of the opposing team can we showcase our superiority. That’s when a player's true level is revealed. We respect the Kyrgyz team, but in 90 minutes, any opponent can be defeated. We must not let the current form of the Kyrgyz team distract us,” he added.
Hamrobekov also highlighted the advantage of playing on home turf, stating that the support of local fans provides extra strength to the players.
“Playing in a stadium filled with supporters gives the home team a significant boost while also increasing the players' sense of responsibility. The condition of the field, as we’ve seen during domestic league matches, is excellent. I don’t think it will pose any problems for us,” he said.
Earlier, Uzbekistan’s head coach Temur Kapadze also shared his insights ahead of the game.
