Rustam Assakalov, a member of the Uzbek national team in Greco-Roman wrestling, competing in the Olympic Games at the -97 kg weight class, was injured during the match for 3rd place and had to end the match early.
The 40-year-old Assakalov, facing 25-year-old Gabriel Kindelan from Cuba, sustained an injury at the beginning of the match. Despite multiple administrations of painkillers by the medical team, Assakalov's pain did not subside, ultimately costing him the chance to compete for the Olympic bronze medal.
It should be noted that earlier reports mentioned Aram Vardanyan from Uzbekistan competing for 3rd place in the -77 kg weight category.
