4421Additional guarantees are being established for the Human Rights Representative of the Oliy Majlis (Ombudsman) to carry out his duties without hindrance and effectively. This is mentioned in the draft law "On Human Rights Representative (Ombudsman) of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan".
Today, on July 17, the Committee of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis on Democratic Institutions, Non-Governmental Organizations, and Self-Governing Bodies of Citizens held a working group meeting dedicated to the discussion of this draft law.
It was reported that the draft law, developed by a group of deputies of the legislative chamber on the basis of the right of legislative initiative, consists of 9 chapters and 56 articles. With the draft law, in order to strengthen the institutional foundations of the Ombudsman, additional guarantees are established to ensure that the Ombudsman can carry out his tasks without hindrance and effectively, based on international experience.
It is also envisaged that the report on the activities of the Ombudsman will be heard every year at the meetings of the chambers of the Oliy Majlis. The procedure for providing information to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Chambers of the Oliy Majlis by the Ombudsman on the state of compliance with the laws on the protection of human rights, freedoms, and legal interests by state bodies, including law enforcement and control bodies, is being strengthened.
At the meeting of the working group, the norms of the draft law were discussed in detail with the participation of deputies, the Human Rights Representative (Ombudsman), and experts. In the end, the working group agreed to include the draft law in the agenda of the next session of the Legislative Chamber for consideration in the first reading.
