Current World Chess Champion, Norwegian Magnus Carlsen commented on the participation of Uzbekistani Grandmaster Nodirbek Abdusattarov in the prestigious Tata Steel Chess-2023 international tournament.  Carlsen said this in an interview on the official YouTube page of the tournament.

"Abdusattarov was the leader throughout the tournament. I'm sorry for Nodirbek. It's hard when you're in this situation for the first time.  Even if you have a lot of experience, it is difficult to stay in the lead for a long time in such a tournament.  I feel it.  As for Anish Giri, he has outdone me for the first time in a long time.

Congratulations. This happened at a good time for him.  He had come close to it several times.  This time luck was on his side," said Magnus Carlsen.

Nodirbek Abdusattorov spent most of the Tata Steel Chess-2023 tournament as the leader, but lost the championship in the last round.  Carlsen, who lost his chance to Abdusattarov during the tournament, was satisfied with the 3rd place.

We remind you that after the "Tata Steel Chess-2023" matches, the Chairman of the Uzbekistan Chess Federation, Alisher Sadullayev, expressed his opinion on the participation of Uzbekistani chess players in the prestigious tournament.
