Yesterday afternoon, the 2 April, in the capital city of Tashkent, the streets and metro stations were flooded due to the rainfall.  The mayor’s office explained why the streets had overflowed with rainwater.

It is noted that 20 millimeters of rain fell in 2 hours yesterday, which is a third of the total norm for April, i.e. 60 millimeters.

“The average diameter of the trays in Tashkent is 300 millimeters.  They deliver rainwater to collectors and canals.  As the floodgates were not designed to receive such a large flow at one time, water accumulated in several settlements in our city,” said the hokimia’s response.

It is reported that, in order to quickly remedy the situation, more than 500 employees and more than 100 units of special equipment of the Tashkent City Development Department and its district departments, communal sector systems, Emergency Situations Department and the Department of Internal Affairs were involved.  By 11:00 p.m. yesterday, issues at all addresses were resolved.
