News has spread that Jahangir Ulugmurodov, who was imprisoned for 3 years for spreading propaganda in Akkurgan district of Tashkent region, has been released under house arrest.  QALAMPIR.UZ contacted the accused’s lawyer and father in order to clarify the situation.

According to lawyer Abdumalik Abdullayev, the reports about his release from house arrest and the reduction of the sentence are false.

“Since there is an appeal period, the legality, reasonableness and fairness of the court verdict are currently being studied together with the documents of the criminal case.  Four lawyers have been hired by his relatives to protect the rights and legal interests of Jahangir Ulugmurodov,” he says.

Ulugmurodov’s father also denied reports about his house arrest.

It should be recalled  that a 20-year-old man was sentenced to 3 years in prison in the Akkurgan district of the Tashkent region, after he spread a message to a group on Telegram.  Using the Telegram profile opened on his iPhone-X phone, 10 people posted a religious message in Uzbek called “Shahid bolik ketsak rozi bolingiz” calling for “jihad” and “emigration” in Uzbek.  It was found that he distributed it to a group called “Alhamdulillah” of which he was a member.

According to the judgment of the Akkurgan district court on criminal cases on May 8th 2023, Jahangir Ulugmurodov was charged with Article 244-1 of the Criminal Code (preparation, storage, distribution or display of materials that threaten public safety and public order).  Using Article 57 of the Criminal Code (imposition of a lighter sentence) with paragraph “g” of part 3, the punishment of imprisonment for a period of 3 years was imposed.
