Schoolboy dies after being electrocuted on transformer in Namangan

A fifth-grade student died after being electrocuted in Davlatabad district of Namangan region, Millar reported.
According to reports, the tragedy occurred at around 7:37 p.m. on May 5. The minor, born in 2013, was electrocuted after climbing onto a high-voltage electrical transformer while trying to pick cherries.
Relatives of the deceased boy said he had gone outside after returning from school to play football with his friends. Neighbors rushed to the scene after hearing a loud flash and explosion.
Seeing the boy’s condition, neighbors tried to provide first aid and took him to hospital. However, he was later reported to have died.
The deceased was a fifth-grade student in class 5-V at secondary school No. 56 in Davlatabad district.
His relatives said the area around the transformer had not been fenced off with safety barriers and that electrical wires were in a disorderly condition. They accused officials of negligence. According to them, the area was partially cleaned after the incident, but protective barriers have still not been installed.
A pre-investigation inquiry is being conducted by the Davlatabad District Prosecutor’s Office. An internal inspection has also been launched into the activities of employees of the district electricity supply company.
Earlier, it was reported that a child had been electrocuted by a high-voltage current at a preschool institution in Fergana.
