Uzbekistan records 80.4 billion soums in electricity and gas theft in one month

The illegal use of energy resources in Uzbekistan caused damage worth 80.4 billion soums to the system in September of this year. This was reported by the Inspectorate for the Control over the use of electric power, petroleum products, and gas.

According to the report, during the past month, 219 cases of unauthorized use of energy resources by consumers were identified in control measures conducted by Uzenergoinspeksiya in cooperation with law enforcement agencies. As a result, it was found that 33.6 million kWh of electricity (worth 52 billion soums) and 9.4 million cubic meters of natural gas (worth 28.3 billion soums) had been stolen. According to preliminary calculations, the total damage amounted to 80 billion 473 million soums.

In addition, 546 administrative cases were initiated regarding violations of the rules for the use of energy resources by consumers. The relevant documents have been submitted to law enforcement agencies to take appropriate measures against the offending consumers in accordance with the established procedure.

It is worth noting that in August of this year, damage worth 86.5 billion soums was caused to the system in Uzbekistan due to the illegal use of energy resources. In particular, it was reported that as a result of the theft of 36.8 million kWh of electricity (worth 58.9 billion soums) and 8.7 million cubic meters of natural gas (worth 27.5 billion soums), the total damage amounted to 86 billion 571 million soums, according to preliminary calculations.
