Today, August 11, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, criticized leaders who abandoned the national "Green Space" project during a video conference held in Bukhara. Presidential Press Secretary Sherzod Asadov reported this development.

As part of the nationwide "Green Space" project, a comprehensive program was introduced to increase greening levels across all regions to 30%. To achieve this goal, each region was tasked with planting 15 million tree saplings in both spring and autumn, as well as establishing "green belts" around all cities. However, certain leaders have neglected these responsibilities. For instance, 10 million saplings perished due to being planted in areas lacking proper irrigation systems. Additionally, tree saplings have not been planted along roads in 33 districts and cities.

The head of state emphasized that enhancing the ecological situation within the territory and creating a comfortable living environment with clean air will now stand as a primary duty for governors. Heads of all systems and regions received instructions to intensify efforts in promoting neighborhood and settlement improvement, as well as greening initiatives for high-rise buildings and courtyards.

Furthermore, regional leaders were directed to plant an equivalent number of saplings in regions with sufficient water supply to compensate for the neglected 10 million trees. Governors of regions, districts, and cities are expected to establish a reserve of tree seedlings and finalize regional planting programs by August 15.

It has been decided that future planting activities will operate based on an annually approved investment program. An allocation of 500 billion soums is earmarked annually for these purposes, representing a tenfold increase from previous years.

The cultivation of seedlings over 1.5 thousand hectares of forest farms will be initiated on a household basis. This initiative is expected to generate employment for at least 10,000 individuals and establish a guaranteed purchase system for each seedling.

As a reminder, last month, Minister of Ecology Aziz Abduhakimov stated during a plenary session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis that the "Green Space" project's report included an additional 2 million unplanted seedlings. He disclosed that 959,000 saplings were registered in Navoi, 564,000 in the Tashkent region, 465,000 in Fergana, and 227,000 in the Kashkadarya region.
