Statue of Botir Zokirov was opened in Tashkent

12446On May 16, a statue honoring Botir Zokirov, the People's Artist of Uzbekistan and the pioneer of national pop art, was unveiled in Tashkent.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the event and extended heartfelt congratulations to art enthusiasts. According to the President's press service, he stated,
"Today is a special day for art and culture. I sincerely congratulate the family, friends, and admirers of the beloved Botir Zakirov, as well as our entire nation, on this joyous occasion."
Born into an artistic family in 1936, Botir Zokirov was honored as the People's Artist of Uzbekistan at the age of 29. He later received the "For Great Services" award in 2000 and the "Respect of the Country" award in 2021.
The President acknowledged the singer's exceptional talent and admirable personal qualities.
Although Botir Zakirov's life was brief, spanning just 49 years, he left a vibrant and rich artistic legacy. His enchanting voice resonated in homes across Uzbekistan, securing a cherished place in the hearts of the people and the nation's artistic heritage. He showcased Uzbek art in cultural capitals worldwide.
In 1955, at the peak of his vitality, Zokirov fell ill and underwent multiple surgeries. Despite being advised by doctors to stop singing, he continued to create and perform.
“Botir Zokirov dedicated his life to innovation, blending Eastern folklore with modern pop art. He founded the creative group "Music Hall" and mentored many young talents as both a singer and composer. His contributions to the creation of the "Yalla" ensemble, which greatly served our country, are unparalleled. Efforts to honor Zokirov's memory and study his artistic legacy are ongoing. Recently, a commemorative event for Botir Zokirov was held, attended by both the public and renowned international artists,” the report stated.
The street where the State Conservatory of Uzbekistan, where Botir Zokirov once studied, is now named after him. The National Pop Art Institute, also named in his honor, has been established at this conservatory, and a statue has been erected there.
"This statue is a symbolic tribute to Botir Zokirov. Our ongoing cultural and artistic reforms in New Uzbekistan and their tangible outcomes will be the most fitting monument to this great creator," said the head of state.
It was emphasized that Botir Zokirov's creative legacy represents a significant era in the history of Uzbek national art. The Cabinet of Ministers has been instructed to prepare a special resolution to further study and disseminate his rich heritage. This includes establishing a memorial museum in Tashkent, launching an international pop art contest named after Zokirov, creating a state scholarship for students, producing a biographical film, and fully supporting the National Pop Symphony Orchestra.
Followers of Botir Zokirov, along with representatives from the arts and cultural sectors, spoke at the ceremony.
