Pre-trial Detention Center No. 3, commonly known as "Andijan Prison," located in the city center of Andijan in the Andijan region, will be relocated. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced the decision on April 16 during a meeting focused on the region’s comprehensive development priorities.
According to the President, the prison, which was built a century ago in the heart of the city, will be moved to the outskirts. In its place, a modern entertainment, shopping, and service center will be constructed. He emphasized that retaining such a "cold" structure in the city center would be inappropriate at a time when Andijan is becoming increasingly beautiful and modernized.
In addition, the President tasked local officials with engaging entrepreneurs to identify new public transport routes and bus models tailored to the specific needs of the region, and to submit concrete proposals.
It is worth recalling that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in the Andijan region on April 15 to assess local development initiatives and the living conditions of the population. Speaking at a public rally in the "New Uzbekistan" park in Yangi Andijan, he proposed renaming the town after Zakhiriddin Muhammad Babur to honor his legacy. At today’s meeting, the President also announced that an additional 1 trillion sums would be allocated to support the region’s further development.
