February 5—President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Museum of Islamic Art in Malaysia as part of his official visit, according to the presidential press service.

Established in 1998, the museum is one of Malaysia’s largest cultural institutions, spanning over 30,000 square meters. Designed in the style of traditional Islamic architecture, it houses an extensive collection of more than 10,000 artifacts representing Islamic artistic heritage.

Notably, Uzbek artisans contributed to the decoration and restoration of the museum’s dome, showcasing their craftsmanship on an international stage.

The museum’s permanent exhibition includes rare Quranic manuscripts, ceramics, jewelry, coins, historical weapons, and architectural models. Among its most treasured collections are approximately 200 exhibits originating from present-day Uzbekistan, including medieval manuscripts, intricately designed fabrics, traditional garments, and ceramics from the Eastern Renaissance period.

During his visit, President Mirziyoyev emphasized the significance of expanding academic and cultural cooperation, advocating for joint research projects and collaborative exhibitions.

The President arrived in Malaysia on the evening of February 4, where he was welcomed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport by Johari bin Abdul, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Minister of Education Zambry Abdulkodir, and other officials. Upon arrival, Mirziyoyev held an initial meeting with the Speaker of Parliament at the airport.

Today, an official welcoming ceremony was held at the Perdana Putra government complex in Kuala Lumpur. President Mirziyoyev later engaged in high-level discussions with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, both in a closed session and with the participation of their official delegations. Following the talks, the two leaders signed a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to deepening bilateral ties and advancing their strategic partnership.
