The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, proposed an inventory of the agreements of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to strengthen its role in the international arena. He made this proposal at the 23rd summit of the organization, which is taking place today, July 4.

"We believe that it is appropriate to conduct an inventory of agreements and decisions, and to audit the activities of institutions and cooperation mechanisms," said the President of Uzbekistan.

Mirziyoyev also suggested expediting the implementation of agreements on the modernization of the SCO and the development of a code of good neighborliness for the organization's members.

"We are taking the initiative to develop a code of good neighborliness, trust, and cross-border partnership within the SCO," President Mirziyoyev stated.

The Uzbekistan's leader added that adopting the code would help establish priorities, develop a unified approach, and implement comprehensive measures to further enhance multilateral cooperation in new circumstances.

Furthermore, Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed the development of a map of transport links among SCO countries.

"It is important to take comprehensive measures to strengthen the interdependence of transport communications within the SCO region. We consider it appropriate to develop a map of transport links among SCO countries, which would help identify obstacles and gaps," stated Mirziyoyev.

He mentioned that priority measures and projects for the formation of an integrated transport-transit system in Uzbekistan have already been identified. Mirziyoyev also highlighted the active promotion of several projects related to the development of the North-South and East-West highways in Uzbekistan, as well as the commencement of work on the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway.

"We are developing multimodal transport along this route, as well as through Afghanistan, towards the ports of Iran and Pakistan, with potential access to the markets of South Asia and the Middle East. According to experts, the implementation of these projects will significantly increase the volume of cargo transportation and lead to reduced transportation costs," explained Mirziyoyev.

For your information, the summit also invited the leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the Eurasian Economic Union, the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the United Nations, the Council for Cooperation and Confidence Building Measures in Asia, and the Commonwealth of Independent States.
