The Uzbek president is set to participate in ceremonies marking the 80th anniversary of Victory in World War II on September 3 in Beijing. According to Chinese news agency Xinhua, leaders from 26 countries will attend the celebrations.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will be the first two foreign leaders to arrive in Beijing for the event. China’s commemoration highlights the country’s role in defeating fascism during World War II. The Second Sino-Japanese War, which began with Japan’s invasion of Manchuria in 1931, escalated in 1937 and ended with Japan’s surrender in 1945.
