15990Nursultan Nazarbayev, the former President of Kazakhstan, visited Bukhara, Uzbekistan, as reported by "Uzbekistan 24."
On September 7, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was in Bukhara, where he reviewed the region's socio-economic development and assessed the progress on tasks from previous visits. During his stay, he had an informal meeting with Nazarbayev, who was in Bukhara to explore the city’s ancient architectural landmarks.
Nazarbayev, now 83 years old, served as Kazakhstan's president for 30 years before resigning in 2019, citing the need for a new generation of leadership to continue the country's progress. In January 2023, Kazakhstan's parliament unanimously stripped him of the title "Elboshi," and the Senate subsequently removed him from the honorary senator role. The parliament later abolished this title altogether. As of late May, it is no longer a criminal offense to insult the former president, whereas previously, such insults could lead to a three-year prison sentence.
