47681.3 million people of working age are unemployed in Uzbekistan. Minister of Poverty Reduction and Employment Bekhzod Musayev said this at the international conference on "Promoting decent work to strengthen social justice in Uzbekistan" held in the capital Tashkent.
According to the minister, 2 million 200 thousand unemployed citizens were provided with employment as a result of the establishment of the activities of assistant governors.
"A completely new system for reducing poverty and ensuring employment was established in our country - the Institute of Governor's Assistants. Currently, about 10,000 assistant governors are working in the districts of the republic, and they provide services for the development of entrepreneurship. About 2.2 million people were provided with employment through the allocation of subsidies, employment, involvement in vocational training, and business management skills through the help of the governor's assistants," - Musayev said.
According to information, as a result of the implemented measures, the unemployment rate in the republic was reduced to 8.9%. The poverty rate decreased from 17% to 14.1%.
This year, it is planned to reduce the poverty level in Uzbekistan to 12%, using all possibilities.
Currently, the number of unemployed in the country is 1.3 million. However, Musayev did not clarify where he got this information from. Analyzes of independent institutes and non-governmental organizations on the number of unemployed in Uzbekistan are quite different from what Musayev said.
Of the 3.5 million citizens who went to Russia in search of work in 2022, exactly 41.9 percent, or 1.45 million are accounted for by Uzbeks. Also, last year, Uzbekistan took first place in terms of the nationality of citizens who came to Russia looking for work.
