CIS intelligence chiefs to meet in Samarkand today

The 21st meeting of the heads of security agencies and intelligence services of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) member countries kicks off today, October 17, in Samarkand, the State Security Service of Uzbekistan reported.
It was noted that this is the first time Uzbekistan is hosting the event, which brings together the heads of security and intelligence agencies from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
The meeting is chaired by Colonel-General Bahodir Kurbonov, Head of the State Security Service of Uzbekistan.
Participants are expected to exchange views on modern threats and challenges and discuss priority tasks aimed at strengthening cooperation among the intelligence services of the CIS member states.
The venue and agenda of the meeting were determined during the 20th anniversary session held in Moscow on November 26, 2024.
At the end of the session, the heads of delegations will outline specific tasks and priority areas for cooperation in ensuring regional security.
It is worth noting that earlier, on October 16–17, Samarkand also hosted the 57th meeting of the Council of Heads of Security Agencies and Special Services of the CIS member states.
