8992Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will pay a working visit to Uzbekistan on October 28-29, 2024, and will be received by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. This was announced by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to Zakharova, the talks will focus on deepening and developing Russian-Uzbek cooperation, especially regarding the implementation of agreements following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Uzbekistan in May 2024. The discussions are expected to cover the bilateral agenda and current international and regional issues of mutual interest.
A special focus of the meeting will be the "diplomatic support of Eurasian integration processes," particularly in light of Uzbekistan’s observer status in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).
During his visit, Lavrov is also set to meet with professors and students at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy under Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It is worth noting that on October 22, Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský, during his official visit to Uzbekistan, also visited the same university, where he addressed students and professors.
"As the Minister of Foreign Affairs, it is my duty to ensure the security of my country. This security is currently threatened by Russia's aggression against Ukraine and its consequences. This was my address to the young diplomats of the Diplomatic Academy of Uzbekistan today," the Czech minister wrote on his X page after his visit to UWED.
For reference, Lavrov last visited Uzbekistan in April 2023, when he participated in the meeting of foreign ministers of countries neighboring Afghanistan, as well as in meetings related to the Commonwealth of Independent States and Central Asia.
