Drivers who hit and killed 8-year-old girl in Khatirchi district sentenced

A court in the Navoi region has sentenced two drivers who ran over an 8-year-old girl in Khatirchi district.

According to the court document, on July 1, 2024, N.A., born in 1976, and F.A., also born in 1976, were driving their BYD cars at high speed on the 4P48 highway, attempting to overtake each other on the 126-127th kilometer of the road passing through Khatirchi district. As a result, N.A.'s car hit 8-year-old Sh.Sh., a second-grade student, who was crossing the pedestrian crossing. F.A., following N.A., also ran over the fallen girl.

Both drivers admitted to the crime in court, acknowledging that they had been driving at high speeds while trying to overtake one another.

The court found N.A. and F.A. guilty of violating traffic rules, resulting in the death of a person, under Part 2 of Article 266 of the Criminal Code. Each driver was sentenced to two years in prison, with a two-year deprivation of their driving licenses.

The tragic incident occurred at around 19:20 on July 1 when the BYD Song Plus Champion car struck the girl as she was crossing an unregulated pedestrian crossing. The young girl died at the scene from her injuries.
