The Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) has released its annual "Global Terrorism Index – 2025," ranking Uzbekistan 90th out of 163 countries. Uzbekistan is categorized among nations with a “very low impact of terrorism,” according to the report.
The Global Terrorism Index is a comprehensive study analyzing the consequences of terrorism in 163 countries, covering 99.7% of the world’s population. The index evaluates terrorist activity based on the number of attacks, casualties, injuries, and the level of economic damage. Higher rankings in the index indicate a greater risk of terrorism.
Among Central Asian countries, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan were also ranked among nations with minimal terrorist impact (100th position, with zero scores). Uzbekistan holds 90th place (0.233 score), while Tajikistan is ranked 70th (0.999 score).
In contrast, within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Russia was placed 16th and is categorized among nations with a “high impact of terrorism.” Belarus and Azerbaijan share the 90th position, while Armenia is ranked 79th.
At the top of the rankings are countries facing the most severe terrorism threats. Experts have identified Burkina Faso, Pakistan, and Syria as the most dangerous nations.
The report emphasizes that terrorism continues to pose a global threat. In 2024, the geographic spread of terrorism expanded, presenting new challenges. The number of countries experiencing at least one terrorist incident rose from 58 to 66—the highest figure since 2018.
For the first time in seven years, the number of countries experiencing worsening terrorist impact (45) exceeded those showing improvement (34) in 2024.
Note: In 2024, Uzbekistan ranked 121st out of 180 countries in Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index. Uzbekistan scored 32 out of 100 points, sharing the 121st position with countries like Angola, Ecuador, Kenya, Sri Lanka, and Togo. For comparison, Uzbekistan had scored 33 points in 2023 but held the same ranking of 121 among countries.
