In every poor family in Uzbekistan, opportunities will be created for at least one person to pursue higher education, with a particular focus on women. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced this initiative today, September 11, during a video conference on measures to reduce poverty in neighborhoods and improve the system of support for poor families.

Under this initiative, students at universities, colleges, and technical institutes who achieve a mastery rate of at least 80 percent will be eligible for interest-free education loans for the next academic year. Additionally, students from poor families who score 80 percent of the required points for a government grant will be allocated an additional grant. Financially independent universities will each offer at least 1 billion soums in grants annually for these students. Depending on their academic performance, between 20% and 80% of the tuition fees for children from poor families will be covered by these grants.

Shahnoza Mirziyoyeva, the First Deputy Director of the National Agency for Social Protection, has been tasked with overseeing the quality education of children from poor families in kindergartens, schools, technical institutes, and universities, as well as coordinating comprehensive support for them.

It is worth noting that earlier, a special deputy of the Prosecutor General was appointed to monitor compliance with poverty reduction laws.
