3388A citizen living in Tashkent has filed a complaint with the Oliy Majlis Human Rights Ombudsman (Ombudsman) about a construction company that has left him homeless for almost 7 years. The Ombudsman's press service reported this.
In 2018, the apartment building where the citizen resided was demolished. As part of the redevelopment agreement, the construction company issued a letter of guarantee promising to provide the citizen with a 2-room apartment within a year.
Despite the completion of the new apartment building, the citizen has not received the promised accommodation. In 2022, the apartment designated for him was sold to another individual, leaving him and his family without a home. The citizen's numerous appeals to relevant government agencies have yielded no results.
"The appeal has been taken under the control of the Ombudsman, and his regional representative in Tashkent is investigating the case. Relevant documents are being collected, and necessary corrective measures are being prepared," the report stated.
According to Article 10 of the Law of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the Ombudsman for Human Rights (Ombudsman), the Ombudsman has the authority to investigate complaints filed by citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as foreign citizens and stateless persons residing within the country, against actions or inaction by organizations or officials that violate their rights, freedoms, and legitimate interests.
