European Investment Bank will open a regional office in Tashkent

1703The European Investment Bank will open a regional office in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. The agreement to this effect was signed today, April 3, in the city of Samarkand in the presence of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the President of the European Council António Costa, and the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
The document was signed by Kyriakos Kakouris, Vice-President of the European Investment Bank for Central Asia Cooperation, Water Sector, IT, and Data Management, and Laziz Kudratov, Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan.
“It should be emphasized that the opening of the office in Tashkent will allow for expanding mutually beneficial cooperation, increasing the volume of investments attracted to the development of the 'green' economy, innovative industry, and modern infrastructure in Uzbekistan and Central Asia as a whole,” the report says.
For reference, the European Investment Bank, established in 1958, is the leading financial institution of the European Union.
It should be recalled that earlier, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with the President of the European Council António Costa and the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, who were visiting the country within the framework of the Samarkand Summit. The issues of further developing and strengthening multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union, primarily in the trade, economic, and investment spheres, were comprehensively considered.
